A 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K Spezial sold for $9,680,000 at auction on August 20, 2011, at RM Auctions in Monterey, California. The auto is one of the most expensive cars sold at auction. The car was a subsequent design following the 500K and was one of the largest cars of its time sold. The car is powered by a 5,401 cc engine rated at 115 horsepower. When the driver desires additional horsepower, there is an attached Roots supercharger that can be automatically engaged by pressing the gas pedal to the floor to increase the power to a whopping 180 horsepower and a max speed of 110 MPH (170 KM/Hr).
19. 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe

A 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe sold for $9,800,000 USD at auction on November 17, 1987, at Christie’s in London, England. The auto is one of the most expensive cars sold at auction to date despite occurring almost 20 years ago. Also known as the Bugatti Type 41, the car was designed as a luxury automobile, and featured a 12.7 liter, 12,763 ccs, V-8 engine. The vehicle is 21 feet long and has a 169.3-inch wheelbase making it one of the largest cars in the world. There were six of the vehicles made; however, only three were sold due to the ongoing ‘Great Depression.’
